The Role

We are seeking an experienced QA Lead Engineer to lead and elevate our quality assurance function. You will be responsible for leading and mentoring a team of 4 near-shore QA engineers, building a strong and scalable QA process, and ensuring that product quality meets the high standards expected by our customers.

The QA Lead Engineer will play a critical role in shaping how quality is embedded throughout the software development lifecycle. You will be an advocate for shift-left testing, collaborating with developers and business analysts to ensure that new features are designed for completeness, testability, and maintainability.

You will also champion automation-first practices, embedding end-to-end, acceptance, and regression testing into our CI/CD pipelines to improve reliability and reduce defect escape rates. This is a leadership role that is both strategic and hands-on, balancing process ownership with technical contribution.

Essential requirements of the role

• 5+ years’ experience in Quality Assurance, with at least 2 years in a team lead or manager role.

• Strong background in both manual and automated testing methodologies.

• Hands-on experience with test automation frameworks (e.g. Cypress, Playwright, Selenium, JUnit, PyTest) and CI/CD tools (e.g. Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI).

• Experience in testing APIs, microservices, and UI components in distributed systems.

• Strong understanding of Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) and QA’s role within them.

• Familiarity with test strategy, test case design, and test management tools.

• Proven ability to establish QA standards, metrics, and governance processes.

• Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Key responsibilities

1. QA Leadership & Team Management

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 4 QA engineers (manual and automation).

• Define and evolve QA strategy, standards, and processes across the product organisation.

• Act as a quality advocate with stakeholders across engineering, product, and delivery.

2. Shift-Left Quality

• Engage in feature definition to ensure requirements are complete, testable, and measurable.

• Collaborate with developers to ensure features include hooks and instrumentation to support automated testing at multiple layers.

• Drive adoption of testing practices earlier in the development cycle.

3. Automation & CI/CD Enablement

• Expand and maintain automated test coverage (unit, integration, acceptance, end-to-end).

• Embed automated tests into CI/CD pipelines as release gates.

• Ensure reliability of test suites and reduce fragility in automated testing.

4. Test Process Improvement

• Audit current testing, and formalise into structured, documented regression suites.

• Organise and maintain a test documentation library (test cases, acceptance criteria, coverage maps).

• Promote automation-first principles for regression and repeatable tests.

5. Quality Metrics & Reporting

• Define, track, and report on QA KPIs such as defect escape rates, automation coverage, bug backlog health, and SLA compliance.

• Use data to continuously improve QA efficiency and product quality.

6. Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

• Work closely with Project and Delivery Managers to align QA activities with business priorities.

• Partner with DevOps engineers to improve test environments, monitoring, and CI/CD reliability.

• Drive a culture of continuous improvement and learning from defects, incidents, and retrospectives.
