Senior Software Engineer

Tola Mobile makes simple, reliable payments possible in markets where traditional banking still falls short. Direct carrier billing and mobile wallets already serve millions across East Africa; your systems will take that access further. This role exists because every new operator integration, every extra nine of uptime, and every faster settlement directly expands financial inclusion.

Performance Objectives

• Ship production-grade APIs and settlement services that process carrier-billing transactions at 99.9 % availability within the first six months.
• Lead end-to-end integration of at least two new mobile-network operators, from sandbox to live traffic, inside twelve months.
• Cut payment-failure rates by 20 % through observability, retry logic, and operator-specific handling.
• Establish coding standards, CI/CD pipelines, and on-call practices that let a small team move fast without breaking money movement.
• Mentor two engineers so they independently own production services by the end of year one.
• Partner with product to launch one new mobile-wallet or e-commerce feature that measurably increases transaction volume.

Environment & Resources

You report to the CTO inside a 11–50 person team based in Dublin. You will work with existing payment and telecom APIs, cloud infrastructure, and a modest but focused engineering budget. Direct access to operators, product, and compliance means decisions travel quickly.

Essential Qualifications

• 5+ years building and operating high-volume transactional systems (payments, billing, or similar).
• Proven delivery of resilient, well-documented APIs used by external partners.
• Hands-on experience with distributed systems, observability, and incident response.
• Ability to translate telecom or financial-services constraints into clean software design.
• Track record of raising the bar for code quality and mentoring others.
