Orion Network
Ireland’s Open Access National Fibre Corridor
The Orion Network is a high-capacity open access fibre platform connecting Dublin, Galway, Limerick, Cork, Wexford and New Ross through resilient inland and coastal
infrastructure. Built for international and national traffic flows, Orion enables low-latency connectivity between subsea landing regions, data centre environments and key interconnection
locations across Ireland. As demand for secure, scalable and diverse connectivity continues to grow, the network provides infrastructure-grade backbone capacity for long-term deployment.
We’re building a new ultra-low-latency, high-capacity fibre ring across Ireland, using a combination of Enet’s existing owned duct network and duct capacity leased from third-party infrastructure owners.
The programme involves designing and optimising the end-to-end route, securing third-party duct access, surveying and proving the existing infrastructure, completing civils and remediation where required, and deploying new fibre through the combined duct footprint. From there, the network goes through splicing, testing and commissioning before being brought into service.
It’s a complex multi-party infrastructure build, with significant dependencies across network design, engineering, third-party suppliers, civils, fibre deployment and commercial requirements. The objective is to create a resilient national ring with an optimised physical route to deliver ultra-low latency and high-capacity connectivity for wholesale customers.
